In Georgia, there have been questions about whether the trucking laws are being adequately enforced, especially along Interstate I-16. The reason that they’re being questioned as to whether they are in fact actually being enforced properly is, because there have been 10 deaths along that highway at a certain stretch of that Interstate 16. One of the more recent accidents involved a tractor-trailer, which was not equipped with the accident or the collision avoidance system. Had it been so equipped, it may have automatically braked before colliding into the other vehicle and causing multiple deaths.
In that case as well, as a few other cases along the same part of the roadway, the investigators are trying to determine whether the truck drivers were actually sleeping at the time of the collision. There are both federal and state regulations as to how many hours a driver can be on the road within any given 24-hour period. If you have a family member who has lost their life due to a trucking accident or you yourself have been injured as a result of a trucking accident and wonder whether the trucker was actually negligent, please call my office at 770- 792-1000 and we will explore all of your remedies.
