There are actually three types of traumatic brain injuries that can occur if you’ve been involved in a motor vehicle accident. The first type of brain injury is similar to a shaken baby syndrome and that’s just a situation where your head has actually not struck anything on the inside of the vehicle rather what has happened is that the brain has moved back and forth within the skull itself.
The other type of brain injury that can happen in a motor vehicle accident is a situation where your head is actually struck something either the dashboard or the mirror or the window or something inside the vehicle but at least there’s been a physical contact between your head and then another item in the vehicle inside. The more serious type of traumatic brain injury is a situation where a lot of times your head is struck something inside the vehicle and then there’s been a violent jarring of the brain within the skull and maybe even something is ruptured.
As far as the recovery a lot of times, if it’s not been a very severe impact or very significant brain injury the recovery time, can actually be anywhere from a few weeks to as long in a more serious case to as long as year or more. If you’ve had a traumatic brain injury, the centers for disease control has a lot of or some preventative measures or recommendations that they suggest that you take. For example, they suggest that if you’ve sustained one of these types of injuries that you’re going to want to number one, not exert yourself a lot and number two, you’re probably going to try to get a lot of rest or you should be trying to get a lot a rest.
Again the centers for disease control recommends that if you have been involved in one of these injuries and accidents where you think you’ve sustained it eventually it’s been documented you’ve sustained a brain injury then it’s recommended that you’re not engaged in any strenuous activities and that you follow all the recommendations of your physician that you do not drive during this period and then of course that you do not drink or use alcohol during the time period that you’ve been diagnosed with a brain injury.
