Driving with children in your car. Everybody nowadays knows that texting and driving is illegal and everybody also seems to understand that talking on your cell phone while you’re driving is also a very dangerous behavior. However, what people don’t really realize and what they don’t really discuss and what’s not brought up oftentimes is how dangerous it really is when you’re driving with your children in the car.
Now, driving with children in your car is actually, believe it or not, according to one study that was done, 12 times more dangerous than talking on the cell phone while driving. The primary reason for that really is a lot of times parents or relatives are looking back to check on and monitor the children. Sometimes, they’re trying to discipline the children while they are driving and a bunch of other behaviors which just makes it enormously distracting for the parent.
As I said, parents or other adults who are driving with children in the car take their eyes off the road 20% of the time. To break this down, if you have a 20 minute road trip or a half an hour road trip. Let’s take a half an hour, for example, and you’ve taken your eyes off the road during those 30 minutes, for six minutes that’s a full six minutes that you’re not even looking at the road.
Before you get into that vehicle with your children, some of the things that people do is they try to go out and have them watch movies or play with the gadgets and make sure of course that the children are buckled in because a lot of times parents are leaning over or stretching over in order to re-buckle their child.
