Driving in the fog by truck drivers. The commercial driver’s license manual, which is the Bible for truck drivers, specifically says that truck drivers are supposed to avoid driving in the fog. Of course, foggy conditions can occur at any time and truck drivers are advised to watch out for those conditions. The commercial driver’s license manual actually specifically advises that the trucker is supposed to reduce the speed and that the trucker should not assume that the fog is going to finale.
The rule as far as driving in fogging conditions is that the trucker is supposed to pull off to the side of the road and wait until the fog disappears. Furthermore, they are supposed to turn on their four-way flashers in order to give vehicles behind them an opportunity to notice them. Very importantly, truckers are not supposed to stop to the side of the road in foggy conditions unless it’s absolutely necessary.
