Commercial driver’s license drivers have on their commercial licenses, special endorsements. The commercial driver may have special permission for the transportation of hazardous materials, tankers for transporting motor vehicles from the factory to, let’s say, for example, to the Ford Motor dealership to transporting a double-wide trailer, or even to transporting a triple-wide trailer.
The trucker may have to demonstrate that he or she has specialized knowledge as far as the coupling and uncoupling of a double-wide or a triple-wide trailer. Another type of special endorsement that commercial truck drivers have sometimes is a endorsement to transport passengers. In that instance, the truck driver is going to need to show that they are aware of the safety precautions that need to be implemented for loading and unloading passengers, that they need to be familiar with exit strategies, that they need to be familiar with emergency procedures.
If the truck driver is transporting hazardous materials, the truck driver has to be able to demonstrate that he or she is very familiar with all the hazardous transportation materials regulations, that they also know what to do in an emergency situation when they are transporting hazardous materials. If the truck driver is transporting hazardous materials, he or she has to have knowledge of the hazardous materials regulations, how to handle the hazardous materials and the emergency equipment, and the operation of the emergency equipment on the truck.
