The Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety are making a recommendation that learning permits for Georgia residents be increased from the age of 15 to 16. This is an organization which rates the driver’s safety laws in the State of Georgia. They rate the laws from green, yellow, and red. Currently, they rate the Georgia law as being a yellow as to the Georgia Driver’s License program for teens.
They specifically look at child restraint laws, motorcycle helmet safety laws as well as seat belt laws and the Graduated Driver’s License Program. They specifically want to see the law changed in Georgia so that teens can no longer get a driving permit while they’re 15 years old but prefer and recommend that the teens should only be able to get a driving permit when they’re at least 16 years old.
The other recommendations that the agency is making would be to include laws that protect back-seat passengers with regards to seat belts as well as an automatic ignition lock for any person convicted of a DUI offense. If you have a teen and you’re thinking of getting them a learner’s permit and you have any questions about this information in this video, please contact me at 770-792-1000
