Let’s talk today a little bit about abdominal injuries and internal organ damage whenever you’ve been involved in a motor vehicle accident. A lot of times your internal organs can be damaged, severely damaged and this is important because those are the organs especially, for example, the liver, they will bleed a lot. It often time requires that you are transported by ambulance to the emergency room. Most of the time your rib cage, of course, is going to protect your internal organs but sometimes the rib cage itself becomes fractured and actually the fracturing can cause maybe one of the bones of the rib cage to puncture one of the internal organs which will, of course, then lead to heavy bleeding and possible even death.
Because of its position in relationship to the ribcage, the liver damage is especially life-threatening. It’s more life-threatening actually than if you’ve damaged your pancreas. The spleen, of course, serves as a very useful and important function in your body and if it’s damaged that means that, too, can lead to a very serious life-threatening injury. Kidneys are another internal organ that could be damaged if you’ve been involved in a motor vehicle accident. Fortunately, kidneys are well protected by the rib cage and so kidney injuries in a car accident are not quite as common.
