Hi. I’m Roger Ghai and I wanted to talk to you today about medical payment coverage, what exactly it is and what the benefits are using it. First of all, it’s basically just a provision that you’ve paid for under your own automobile insurance policy that simply says regardless of whether you caused the accident or if it was the other driver that caused the accident that your medical bills should be paid by exercising that policy option.
The most common question is whether you should use your medical payment coverage even though the other driver caused the car accident and the bottom line answer is yes, you should. A lot of times, many times it will put extra money into your pocket at the time of settlement. Your insurance rates will not increase by using your own medical payment coverage. About the only time that your insurance company rates will increase is if you’ve had several accidents within the past year what you’ve caused.
Sometimes the insurance company may be entitled to reimbursement if you have exercised your medical payment coverage. If you have any questions about whether that is the case, please call me at 770-792-1000.
