Getting your police report after an accident. Typically, what happens is that it’s probably of the city that has responded to the accident scene or perhaps it’s the county or could be even the Georgia State Patrol. Typically, what happens is if you want, you can contact the Georgia State Patrol on their website and go to the website. You can actually do an open records request and within about three to five business days, they will actually email you a copy of your police report.
Another way to get your police report is to, and you’ll have to wait to go to this website but it’s called bycrash.com. At that site, at the present time, it costs $11 to order your police report. That saves you the time of having to go over to the actual police station itself. You can go ahead, like I said, and order your police report from bycrash.com for $11 but the waiting period is approximately 10 business days.
If your crash happened here in Cobb County, you might just want to save time. Go over to the Marietta Police Department and for approximately $5, they will provide you with a copy of your police report. Again, you always want to get a copy of your police report because it contains important information related to the other driver. It also establishes or can be used to establish the person who’s at fault. The officer may have cited the other driver which is quite common for either failing to yield or following too closely or something of that nature. If you’re trying to get your police report from either the Kennesaw Marietta or [unintelligible 00:01:49] Police Department, usually those reports are available approximately three to five business days after the accident.
