The truck drivers are specifically warned, according to the commercial driver’s license manual, to not simply rely on their headlights or their tail lights to warn other drivers that they’re actually stopped at the side of the road. The reason for this is that there have been many cases where drivers on the road have actually thought that the truck was still driving when it was actually parked.
If the driver does stop by the side of the road then the driver is required to put these warning devices or these warning signs within 10 minutes of the time that they actually stopped at the side of the road. If the truck driver is stopped on a one-way highway or a divided highway, the trucker is required to place the warnings 10 ft, 100 ft, and 200 ft behind the truck. If you have questions about whether the trucker actually put proper warning devices out behind the truck after stopping to the side of the road, call me, of course, at 770-792-1000.
