Big rig trucks have to be loaded with certain warning devices. A truck has to be loaded with three emergency triangles, reflective triangles, six burning fuses, or three liquid burning fuses. A liquid burning device, of course, cannot be used if the trucker is transporting hazardous materials. An important part as far as the implementation of these warning devices is at once stopped, the trucker is required to place these warning devices outside behind the truck as well as on the side of the truck within 10 minutes of stopping.
There are various distances that the particular warning devices have to be played out, placed, I should say, outside the truck. The distance can range from 10 feet to 100 feet. If the truck is stopped on a curve or a hill or a crest then the warning device might have to be placed as far as a distance of 500 feet out. Different distances also applied depending on the type of highway involved. If it’s a one lane highway then, in most instances, the warning device has to be placed 100 feet within 100 feet of the truck.
However, if it’s a divided highway then the warning device might have to be placed as far all as 200 feet. If you had a case that involves warning devices and whether the trucker actually followed the rules and regulations and you suspect that he or she did not, then please call my office at 770-792-1000.
