Hi. I’m Roger Ghai and I’m a personal injury lawyer. I’m handling a lot of the what we call them, defective drug cases. One of the defective drugs known on the market is Uloric. It’s also known as febuxostat. Basically, what it is is a drug which is supposed to prevent the formation of uric acid. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really do that. In fact, well uric acid actually if it can form in the kidneys it can cause kidney stones. It can also form in the joints and that can cause problems with walking. Basically, Uloric is supposed to aid people with that prevention of the uric acid.
The problem though with Uloric acid is that there’s no real known benefit to it. In other words, there are some serious side effects. In fact, with the Uloric acid, the studies are showing that people are having more events relating to cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, and actually the studies are showing that people who take the Uloric acid are dying from many more causes as a result of taking the Uloric acid.
Now, the manufacture of Uloric acid has known about these side effects for some time now and has still put the drug out there on the market. The other drug to treat gout has been known as allopurinol, and then does not have the same side effects. Unfortunately, the manufacturers of the Uloric acid decided to go ahead and put this drug on the market knowing that it was no safer than the other alternative. That makes for a legal case.
If you know somebody who’s been injured by taking Uloric acid, whether it’s been because of a heart attack or some other type of a cardiovascular event, or even death, then please call my office at (770) 792-1000.
