Night time driving by truckers presents different issues. In fact, the truck driver is advised according to the commercial driver’s license manual that they must be able to stop within the distance that they can see ahead of them. If there is fog or rain or any other element then again the truck driver is required to be able to stop within a distance that they can see ahead of them.
Truck drivers can’t see at night when they use their low beams. According to the commercial driver’s license manual, it is recommended that they use their high beams. If the truck driver is driving at night then and they’re using their low beams, then they can see approximately 250 feet ahead of them. However, if he or she is driving in the night and they use their high beams then the truck driver can see approximately 350 feet ahead of him or her.
It takes 450 feet for the truck driver to stop when they’re driving at the rate of 55 miles per hour, they are required to use their high beams. If it is determined that the truck driver was driving at 55 miles per hour or more with his or her low beams on then, the trucker has violated the trucking industry standards. Many times truckers do, in fact, fail to use their high beams when driving at night.
